Wildlife in the Quabbin

There is such a diversity of wildlife in the Quabbin Region that makes it a great place to watch and photograph. You’ll find all sorts of birds, waterfowl, and the larger ones such as bears, bobcats and the ever-elusive moose!

Bobcat

Not a common site, but not a rare one either. In this case, we both surprised each other and I was able to only get off a few shots before it scampered away.

Otter

Otters are one of the most fun animals to watch and photograph. This was one of seven that swam right up to me to check me out.

Bald Eagle

Bald Eagles were successfully reintroduced into the Quabbin in the 1980s and can often be seen flying around it.

Barred Owl

I can hear them all the time, but getting a good photograph has proven to be elusive!

Loon

Very early, one fall morning

Water Fowl

Taking flight, as seen from a kayak on the Swift River, which was dammed up to create the Quabbin.
