Exploring the Quabbin Reservoir
Quabbin Reservoir is part of a water supply system that provides drinking water to 40% of Massachusetts. How much do you know about the reservoir, its history and how it is managed today? This presentation will explore the history, answer questions, and dispel some of the myths that surround this vital resource of the Commonwealth.
Eagles, Loons and Bears oh My!
In the past 50 years our region has seen the return of many woodland animals in part because of the great habitat Quabbin Reservoir Forest creates. This presentation focuses on the history and habitats of some local wildlife.
Discovering the Other Lost Valley -Ware River Valley
Before the Swift River Valley was cleared and flooded, 23,000 acres were taken along the Ware River in Barre, Oakham, Rutland, and Hubbardston in a project designed to supplement the waters of the new reservoir. 350 people lost their homes in this project and three villages were removed. This program explores the other lost valley, why it was cleared and the role the Ware River Watershed plays in protecting the water supply of 2.7 million Massachusetts residents.
Myths and Mysteries of Quabbin Reservoir and the Ware River Watershed
The history, construction and management of the Quabbin Reservoir and the Ware River watershed hold an endless fascination for both visitors and residents of the area. This presentation explores the mysteries and clears up some persistent myths.
